In 2006-07 the Queensland Vaccine Management Project (QVMP) provided resources, and opportunities for training and local collaborations that supported the divisions of general practice and vaccine service providers in vaccine management. The resources were based on the National Vaccine Storage Guidelines: Strive for 5 and therefore endorsed best practice standards. The 13 month project allowed for a scoping study, resource development and distribution, training workshops and preliminary network collaborations.
The project’s final report identified a number of activities for future consideration and funding. Implementing these activities formed the QVMP review project which evaluated the project implementation methods, the resources and included funding to produce additional supplies of the resources for vaccine service providers. This review was supported by Queensland Health and undertaken by General Practice Queensland (GPQ).
The findings of the review project recommended a range of activities to further support vaccine service providers through amendments to the resources, strategies to increase uptake of the resources and the continued sustainability of the QVMP project deliverables.
Given the popularity of GPQs vaccine management webpage, Queensland Health funded the development of this website to increase its accessibility and enhance its functionality. Together with updating the KISS Guide facilitator’s kit using feedback obtained through the review project, these activities will improve the sustainability of the resources and lead to opportunities for ongoing promotion of the QVMP resources.
